In December 2015, it was announced that a small contingency of British troops would return to Camp Shorabak in an advisory role, due to the Taliban overrun of Sangin district in Helmand province. Upon completion of British and US military withdrawal from Camp Bastion, it was renamed Camp Shorabak as this was the name of the Afghan base situated there. At least five ANA soldiers were killed in the attack. As of Sunday 30 November, the Afghan National Army had not fully driven out the "Taliban" fighters. On 27 November 2014, insurgents infiltrated Camp Bastion. The camp was handed over to the control of the Afghan security forces on 26 October 2014. In February 2014, snow fell in Camp Bastion for the first time since the base was established, eight years earlier. Its air traffic controllers were integral to the support of the UK's operations in southern Afghanistan and the Air Traffic Control Squadron at Camp Bastion was the first to recruit and train US Marines to UK air traffic control standards. Ĭamp Bastion airfield and heliport handled up to 600 fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft movements every day in 2011, operating combat, medical and logistics flights. īy September 2014 it was reported that both Bastion 2 and 3 had reverted to desert. ![]() Bastion 0 was added in around 2010 and housed the contractors and Bastion 3 was used for in-theatre training.Ĭamp Bastion included Bastion Airfield, Bastion Garrison and Camp Leatherneck along with Rowe Lines. Bastions 1 and 2 were the first, with Bastion 2 containing Camp Barber (US) and Camp Viking (DK). The base had previously been divided into a number of different sections (bastions). The first runway capable of handling C-17s direct from the United Kingdom opened in Camp Bastion on 3 December 2007. The first camp to be built was Camp 251 which housed the construction force and they were housed in tents. The base was originally named by the Commanding Officer of 62 Works Group (RE) based upon name of the gabions used to form the compounds walls Hesco Bastion. įour miles long by two miles wide, the camp had a busy airfield and a field hospital and originally had full accommodation for 2,000 people. where the fate of world security in the early 21st century is going to be decided". In November 2006, the then British Prime Minister Tony Blair visited Camp Bastion, and, while addressing a gathering of British troops, described it as an "extraordinary piece of desert. However, from early 2006 personnel from 39 Engineer Regiment Royal Engineers and various contracting firms, all under the supervision of 62 Works Group Royal Engineers started to build the base with more robust facilities. The camp started out with just a few tents in 2005. This provided a vital and strategic insertion point in Helmand Province and unbeknownst to the two controllers, was to be the foundations for Camp Shorabak. Ĭamp Shorabak began life as Camp Bastion, a tactical landing zone set up by two air traffic controllers from the Royal Air Force's Tactical Air Traffic Control Unit. The Taliban took control of Afghanistan in July–August 2021 and the camp is now under control by the Taliban. Shorabak contained the Afghan National Army (ANA) camp (also called Camp Shorabak), and also held Camp Leatherneck until 2014. ![]() The base was also home to troops from other states, including the United States and Denmark. It was the largest British overseas military camp built since the Second World War. Between 2005 and October 2014 it was the logistics hub for International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) operations in Helmand during the War in Afghanistan and Operation Herrick, and it was capable of accommodating over 32,000 people. The camp was built by the British Army in 2005-06, and on 27 October 2014 the British Army handed over control to the Afghan Ministry of Defense. The camp was situated in a remote desert area, far from population centres. It's described as a sort of Bergsons' training ground - you have to complete certain objectives, like surviving hordes of enemies or guarding Rea Laborers, to progress to the next floor. The Leopard is a fun ship it just can't be as versatile as the Rattvisan is. For more information, contact the Textual Records office at National Archives and Records Administration - College Park, 8601 Adelphi Road, College Park, MD 20740-6001 telephone 30. The records for Army units active during the interwar periods (50) are incomplete. I personally ran my Connie with all 12 lb longs. The records vary by conflict and branch of service. With some testing you can usually find a working settup. Longs are my preference, but meds and carronades require less crew as well as smaller class guns. There are two distinct routes into the Royal Navy, you can either join as an officer cadet, or as a rating. If you were only going to get one of these ships, personally I'd recommend the Rattvisan, it is good for PvP and PvE. If you do run into crew issues for your guns then you are going to big for your level or you can cut the requirements by using different guns. Ranks are the backbone of how the service is structured and define an individuals degree of responsibility. She is more like a small line ship, similar to Agamemnon.īoth ships have roughly the same speed though I find Leopard turns better. It has a high crew count making boarding easy for itself and it has decent armour and structure health points. Rattvisan cannot hold carronades but it has one of the biggest broadsides for the 4th rates, only beaten by the Agamemnon and the Ingermanland (Ingermanland can mound 32 pounders). The issue is when you are fighting other 4th rates, the Leopard kind of sucks at that and it doesn't have much crew so it can easily be boarded by Agamemnon and other high crew 4th rates. crew like now, you could be summoned into action in one way or another if there. She also has the highest (I'm pretty sure) mast strength of all the 4th rates which is extremely valuable when taking on large rated ships. Attacking passive ships is grounds for demotion in the Alliance ranks. Ranks signify the level of each sailor’s job duties and leadership responsibilities. aircraft carrier is being reassigned while investigators consider whether he should face disciplinary. Sailors wear insignia on their uniforms that designates their rank. Even as he is hailed as a hero by his crew, the fired commander of a coronavirus-stricken U.S. A sailor’s letter and number represent their rank, title and pay grade. It can tackle L'Ocean's and other 1st rates extremely well. Navy ranks are comprised of four groups: enlisted, warrant officers, commissioned officers and admirals. Leopard is great at taking on 3rd rates and above, it can fit 42 and 32 pound carronades so it is nasty at stern raking bigger ships. Achieving high results is impossible without perfect timing in pressing subsequent combinations of buttons and deflection of the analog stick. Roll7 is a bit of a cross between Cannabalt (2D graphics, continuous right) with Rock Band Blitz or another music title using a normal pad. The greatest aspect of OlliOlli, apart from the darksouls-like constant “dying” and almost non-irritating repetition of the same sequences, is the rhythm of the game. The game is quite accessible in this aspect, because all the tricks are described in the encyclopedia, which also includes their visuals. ![]() The very wide repertoire of tricks motivates to learn and develop skills, which we can perform, while increasing the score on a given route. On a specially generated board for this mode, we can train at will, but we get only one point for a run, and the final result obtained in it is compared with the achievements of people from around the world. Good luck in completing it.Īdditionally, for fans of comparing their virtual… ego, there is a challenge of the day. If we manage to max it out, we will get access to the super difficult version. When we manage to complete all these points, an even more difficult level is unlocked. They can be both very easy, such as performing a specific trick, medium, such as getting a certain score, and very difficult (most), such as perfect landings or passing the entire level without touching the Earth from the first jump. In addition, on the routes from the campaign mode, we can perform challenges presented to us on the board before the start. a shorter, more difficult version of the route, used to live the results. After driving each of them, the so-called Spot is unlocked, i.e. However, OlliOlli offers much more than just 25 basic levels (5 for each world). The next levels are getting more and more difficult, just reaching the finish line without falling will be a challenge for most players. L and R, on the other hand, are used to perform turns in the air, which additionally multiply the score, if we manage to land correctly.Īfter completing the tutorial and the first 2-3 levels, we quickly realize that there is a specific challenge behind this apparent simplicity. Use X to accelerate our skater, and also land after jumps. ![]() The k**b is used for bouncing on the board (downward movement) and for twisting tricks (various movements, depending on the level of difficulty of the trick) and for grinding on the bars. It uses only 3 buttons – X, L and R and the left analog stick. The animation should be praised because it is ultra-smooth, although it would be difficult to expect anything else in this situation. a seaport, a Russian snow-covered base or a futuristic city. The number of available sceneries (five) is also not overwhelming, but they are visibly different from each other – we will visit e.g. There is not much going on in the background either, sometimes some clouds move, but this type of thing was present in games already 3 decades ago. There is a small people on the board on the two-dimensional boards, the elements in the foreground are static and not very different within one “world”. The graphic design is very, very simplified here. ![]() ![]() OlliOlli, on the other hand, chained me to the screen for many hours and I am sure that I will come back to this position.Īt first glance, the game in question does not look very interesting. Most of them were simply weak, and even if they presented a specific quality, such as the Skate series from EA, I somehow couldn’t convince myself of it. Not because I did not have time, but for a prosaic reason – I did not like them. Nothing could be further from the truth – it’s a hardcore hard toy.įor many years, or actually since the fall of 2002, when the Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4 premiered, I have not played any skateboard title for more than several dozen minutes. OlliOlli looks like such a title because of its looks and seemingly simple controls. Sometimes we all want a simple game, perfect for a few bus stops. To turn a C major tune into a song evoking a sad, melancholy, or spooky feeling, sub in the 1-4-5 chords from C major with the 1-4-5 chords from A minor.Ģ. Now that we’re familiar with the relationship between major and minor, let’s use the example of cousins C major and A minor to see how we can go from a cheery major to a foreboding minor.ġ. And that, boys and ghouls, is knowledge, and knowledge found here is musical power. Three half-steps down from C is A, so A is the relative minor of C major. If you want to use a major key to find the relative minor key, just find the name of the major key and move three half-steps backwards (or down). Because they share something in common – musical DNA, so to speak – the minor is a relative to the major, hence the name relative minor. Now would be a good time to point out that major keys share the same key signature with their relative minor keys – in this example, A minor shares the same key signature of having zero sharps or flats with C major. You’d end up playing (starting from A, remember): A-B-C-E-D-F-G-A. ![]() ![]() It goes a little something like this:įor example, if you wanted to turn a regular A major scale into a something a bit more, shall we say, haunting, simply follow the pattern of whole-half-whole-whole-half-whole-whole up the scale and back. The pattern of a minor scale takes the following steps up from the starting note (also known as the base note or tonic note). Essentially, we know if a song uses a minor key by seeing if it’s using a minor scale. So how can you begin to create your own creepiness and unease? To begin with, we must understand what constitutes a minor key. This cover by Tyler Ward & KHS takes a sad song and makes it sadder: It doesn’t matter whether you subscribe to the nature or the nurture theory: when a happy song takes on a minor key, the sound summons a bit of the sinister. Such nonlinear sounds – a dissonant chord, a child’s cry, a baby animal’s scream – trigger a biologically-ingrained response by making us think our young are threatened, according to Blumstein’s study, sponsored by the University of California at Los Angeles and published in the journal Biology Letters. Yet another study suggests that there is a connection between horror music and the screeches of young frightened animals. Her findings support the theory that human vocal expressions and music share an acoustic code for communicating sadness. The musical interval referred to as the minor third is generally thought to convey sadness, and that minor third also occurs in the pitch contour of speech conveying sadness. Meagan Curtis of Tufts University’s Music Cognition Lab led a study whose results revealed that the relationship between pitches serves as an important cue for conveying emotion in music. However, new evidence has emerged, indicating that we may be wired to listen for sadness in the minor key after all. She writes, “ Constantly touching base with our musical memory back catalogue helps to generate expectations of what might come next in a tune, which is an important source of enjoyment in musical listening.” Vicky Williamson, lecturer in Music Psychology at Goldsmiths University, we are culturally conditioned to perceive major key music as happy and minor key music as… not. Simply put, the minor key is often synonymous with:īut why? The Science Behind the Creep FactorĪccording to Dr. If you want to know about how to summon the spirit of All Hallow’s Eve in your own music, or just how to make some poppy bubblegum song turn dreary), then read on. We could spend ages talking about the theory behind mode, minor key songs that are actually joyful-sounding, and the debate on whether or not it’s a biological response or solely the result of how Western musical culture dictates how our ear perceives the minor key… but it’s already Halloween, and you don’t have much time (cue door slamming and tick-tocking of clock). Therewith, DCPro does what the scan software SilverFast does with the scanners with the help of an IT-8 target that is measuring their error and correct it. By this way, the biggest possible colour fidelity can be achieved. ![]() By photographing the supplied calibration target and the later evaluation of the photography by the software, SilverFast DCPro calculates an ICC-profile that compensates the "tritanopia" of the camera in use. Moreover, it is possible to adjust some individual camera profiles with SilverFast DCPro. More information is obtainable in our SilverFast HDR test report. In order to generate such a raw scan, one adjusts during the scanning the output type "48 Bit HDR colour" and/or "16 Bit HDR grey scales". With SilverFast DCPro, also those raw scans made with the scan software SilverFast Ai can be processed. These so-called raw data are the image data of the digital camera the way they are captured by its sensor - they are not interpolated to a finished image, neither any corrections are made the way it is usually automatically done by the internal image processing of the camera in order to get a "real" image. SilverFast DCPro is a software for processing the raw image data. What does the software SilverFast DCPro do? Therewith, the raw data of the camera can be processed and optimized and also individual camera profiles can be issued in the comfortable way that is so typical for SilverFast. With SilverFast DCPro, LaserSoft Imaging provides the photographer with a tool that unites both aspects in a programe. A digital camera can be calibrated and profiled as it is also the case in a scanner, a monitor or a printer. If the photography should reproduce the colour exactly, the profiling of the camera is required.
